Logitech is a well recognized technology company in the industry. From webcams to iPad cases and keyboards, they are constantly striving to catch up with the new and innovative tablets. Logitech’s products are simple to use and does the job, not to mention they are at a reasonable price. The Ultrathin Keyboard for iPad 2 and iPad (3rd and 4th generation) is part of the lineup for iPad cases/keyboards.
This light weight keyboard also acts as a cover for the iPad screen. With instant on/off, it saves the battery when I’m not using it, just like the Apple Smart Case. The keyboard also turns off/goes to sleep itself if you forget to turn it off to save batteries. As a University student with a laptop that cannot stay on for longer than 4 hours, this keyboard is really useful to me. I am able to charge my iPad the night before and clip on the cover the next day and go to school. When I first received this keyboard, the instructions told me to charge it until the light on the right corner turns green. Since then (which was 2 weeks ago), I am still able to use the keyboard. My old keyboard case could not last for more than 1 day, which really is worse than my Acer laptop.
The keyboard features many useful buttons that works with the iPad, such as return to home screen, lock, and mute or turn the volume up/down. The keyboard almost resembles the keyboards on Apple computers, which makes it feel like I’m using a Macbook instead of an iPad. The keyboard links to the iPad via Bluetooth, which is handy because Bluetooth is already in the iPad and bringing an extra USB cord just to link the two together would be a hassle.
The keys on this keyboard is easy to type with and the clicking noise it makes while I type really attracts me, as it sounds like a gaming keyboard (if only I can play MMORPG games on iPads!!). The keys are quite close together, which ensures that typing is fast since all the keys are reachable without stretching your fingers too far.
One few things I did not like about this keyboard cover was that the slot to hold the iPad does not guarantee the protection of the iPad. If you do not place the iPad securely in the slot, it can just topple over. Not to mention that the iPad does not have a back cover with this keyboard. Another thing I do not like is that the magnetic strip that clips onto the iPad isn’t strong, which also shows minimal protection for the iPad, even if it is in your bag. Finally, there is no way of telling how long the battery will last. There is only a light that tells you if the keyboard is on or off. It would be better if there was a battery meter to show how much battery was left to ensure it is enough for the day.
The price for this keyboard cover is $99.99 USD/CAD and there is free shipping because Logitech provides it for anything over $49.00. For this price for a light weight and portable keyboard is very reasonable. It is cheaper to buy it on the site than buying it in any other store such as Futureshop or Best Buy.
Overall, I really do enjoy using this keyboard and I would recommend it to anyone that has an iPad and is willing to spend some money for something really useful for school. This keyboard now only comes in black (white and purple has been sold out).
