A viral video surfaced this week, claiming the company HUVrTech created a real life hoverboard. Something that most people in my generation hoped to see, many were excited and flabbergasted to see this idea being turned into reality when the video went viral. And with endorsements from skater Tony Hawk, Moby, Terrell Owens and Christopher Lloyd from Back to the Future, it seemed to add to the excitement.
But turns out it was fake.
According to a report, Funny or Die seems to be the culprit behind this video. Even Lloyd himself mentioned last year he did a shoot with Funny or Die. Oh yeah and that engineer Nelson Cheng, well he’s an actor. And sharp-eyed viewers have noted that you can see shawdows of a crane if some parts of the video, as well as harnesses holding up the actors.
The video currently has over 4 million views on YouTube, and the views are growing. Comments now are revealing that the video is fake, disheartening many who thought this was actual reality.
So it seems like we’ll have to wait a bit longer to see hoverboards come to the market. Was it a good video? Yes, and quite the elaborate prank. But for the time being, flying down the street won’t be a reality.
Now excuse me while I go cry.
