For all the Flappy Bird haters, this will probably be the best news you’ve heard all year. Earlier today, the creator of the hit game Flappy Bird, surprisingly announced that he would be taking down the popular game.
Flappy Bird has been one of the number one hit games on the iOS App Store and Google Play Store. Both are currently rated over 3 stars on both platforms. It’s a surprising move from the developer, as it has been reported to make over $50 000 a day from ad revenues. Reports have also surfaced that he is being sued for legal reasons, as others have noticed it does look like games such as Piou Piou and has copied the art style from the iconic Super Mario Bros series, but the developer confirmed on Twitter that this is not the case.
Many have commented on how the love the game, or hate the game, over the past week. Even some developer created a web-based game called “Squishy Bird” to express their frustration. But maybe it’s because of the sudden fame? Or maybe it’s all the hatred he has received? Earlier today on Twitter the developer posted, “I can call ‘Flappy Bird’ is a success of mine. But it also ruins my simple life. So now I hate it.”
For some, the news will come as a shock, and others relief. And select few will be heartbroken to hear the news that a simple bird is leaving our world. At least until the game gets pulled from the App Stores, Flappy Bird addiction will soon diminish.
