Being a student and blogger, there’s no doubt I use laptops pretty much on a every day basis. And being on-the-go, my keyboard has a good chance of coming in contact with coffee for late study nights, and food for midnight snacks. Thing is, I don’t want that trapped in my keyboard, especially the coffee! So iSkin came out with a stylish solution, there own set of MacBook keyboard covers.
iSkin’s lineup of keyboard covers come in four different options: ProTouch Classic, ProTouch FX, ProTouch Languages, and ProTouch Visual Assist. What’s unique about these keyboard covers are the different design options iSkin offers, especially in their ProTouch FX lineup. The one pictured in our review is the ProTouch FX Chevron Gray option, but we also got the opportunity to check out the ProTouch Kids. From using both the FX Chevron Gray as well as the Kids option, they add a nice contrast to the keyboard, and add a splash of colour in the kids version.
The keyboard covers are made with high-grade silicon and are designed to fit over the keyboard with no slippage. A bonus for iSkin’s keyboard covers are that they are washable to rid of bacteria that grows up on your keyboard. Since we all constantly use our keyboards everyday (in my case blogging and school), it’s a huge factor for me that a keyboard cover is washable to rid of bacteria. The cover is thin, and fits perfectly over the keyboard. Unlike other keyboard covers we have used in the past, these don’t leave a mark on our laptops, which is a huge plus factor. As well, they keyboard covers are foldable, making it easy to store she not in use.
While it is a great product, we found that typinging on the keyboard cover will take a bit of time to get used to. The Apple keyboard allows for pretty speedy typing, and it took a while to get used to the feel of the iSkin cover. Not a big deal, but just keep that in mind. As well, if you go for the more unique designs rather than the clear option, you’ll find that you will not be able to get a strong backlit keyboard.
The prices for the keyboard come in at a reasonable $24.99 USD for all models. For the price, it’s definitely worth the money. However, it will only fit MacBook Pro 13″ & 15″ / Retina 2010+, MacBook Air 13″ 2009+, Apple Wireless Keyboard 2007+ and iMac Wired Keyboard 2010+ models. After using the keyboard cover for a little over a week, we actually did enjoy this product. The design adds a nice contrast to my laptop, and certainly makes it stand out. If you’re looking for a solid keyboard cover, look no further than iSkin’s lineup of keyboard covers.
