Today in a press event, EA announced their summer schowcase, giving information and demos about EA’s new games coming out in the fall. There was a focus on the Wii-U in the beginning, and then they announced games for iOS, PC/Mac, and other game systems. Please note that the pictures posted are screenshots from the press event, so they aren’t in really high quality.
Madden 13 for the Wii U kicked off the show. EA said that they included a revolutionary new carreer mode, plus a new commentary team. The touchscreen Wii-U gamepad will be your “playbook.” During the game, you can use the controller to move your players and change the direction of the player.
Fifa 13 on the Wii U was announced next.
“Bringing the next gen experience to Nintendo users for the first time ever. The Best FIFA game ever on a Nintendo console”
The Wii U gameplay looked stunning on the live demo. The Wii U controller almost “brings you in the pitch.” If you move the Wii U controller, you can see the players around you, which is really cool! It seems like the Wii U controller shows almost exactly what is on your TV screen, which is good due to the new controls that EA has introduced. This includes a new feature called “shake and shoot,” giving a virtual representation of where the ball will go when you shoot the ball. Touchscreen passing adds a new level of control, giving you the ability to pass to which player you wish. Manager mode looks really cool, and is shown on the Wii-U gamepad. The Gamepad allows a more flowing and immersive experience.
Also included on the Wii U gamepad is tactics, which used to be on the Wii U menu. It allows you to change on the fly, which in my opinion, gives a really cool experience. It seems ridiculous before when you have to go to the pause menu just to change your tactics.
Next, they announced information about mobile titles. And it looks like they’re going to take advantage of the retina display on the new iPad.
They started off with my favourite app, FIFA 13 for iOS. There have been dramatic graphic improvements to players’ faces, stadiums and the full much-day environment There are new control buttons for offense and defense. And finally, they have brought online multiplayer, something missing from FIFA 12 for iOS. There was multiplayer functionality on previous FIFA iOS installments, but only through Bluetooth and if you were playing on the same WiFi network. Online multiplayer will be connected through the Origin service. The new multiplayer seems to be more fluid than previous FIFA installments, which was usually choppy. Something really cool they added was the ability to upload your replays to YouTube, something I really wanted when they introduced the save replay feature in FIFA 12 for iOS.
Real Racing 3 was introduced next. The Real Racing experience is being taken to the next level. They showed a quick video of Beta footage.
Chillingo introduced a new game in this press event also. Orc Vengeance is a new game, and looks similar to Zelda.
Talking Zombatar was introduced next, and is the next chapter to the popular iOS game Plants vs. Zombies. And this becomes the first Plants vs Zombies free-to-play product. My opinion from the video was it looks like a Zombie Tamagotchi was augmented reality functionality!
“Talking Zombator looks like it could be a real blast.”
Next they announced The Sims 3 Season expansion pack. It captures the powerful beauty of nature, and seems like a really cool expansion pack. For each season, there are seasonal special festivals, plus other activities to do. An example is snowboarding in the winter. This expansion pack comes out November 13th, and if you pre-order, you will receive an exclusive ice-themed community lot.
Need for Speed World was introduced. The content looks stunning, and they have introduced “Drag Race,” a feature most requested. There are new cars, events, roads, and much more.
Battlefield 3 Armored Call took the stage next. This includes new weapons, maps, and vehicles.
Mass Effect 3 Leviathan on Wii U, PC, XBOX 360, and PS3 was unveiled. A short video followed.
Finally, they mentioned a new game Army of 2, Devils Cartel. However, they gave no further information, but more will be unveiled in a future press event.
I will be checking out the new FIFA 13 iOS app when it comes out, so stay tuned for that! So what did you think of todays press event? Any of these games you will be checking out?
