Looks like your 3DS just got bigger. Two weeks after the annual E3 conference, Nintedo announced today the release of the Nintendo 3DS XL. To me, it’s no surprise that Nintendo would be releasing their 3DS system, in the XL format. But it is surprising that they announced this after the E3 conference.
The new Nintendo 3DS XL is going to be available in 2 colours, red and blue, and will come with a 4GB SD card, and will have a battery life that “outperforms that of the original Nintendo 3DS.” The 3DS XL will be 4.88 inches on the top, and 4.18 inches on the bottom. That means it has been upgraded to 1.35 x 1.16 inches longer. It will be available on August 19th, at a suggested price of $199.99, which is $30 more than the current 3DS. This system comes out on the same day of the release of the New Super Mario Bros. 2 video game.
“No other hand-held entertainment experience compares to the fun of Nintendo 3DS. With the launch of Nintendo 3DS XL on Aug. 19, consumers will be able to enjoy the great lineup of current and upcoming games on an even grander scale. Plus, Nintendo 3DS XL gives owners even more real estate on their screens to enjoy entertainment applications like Nintendo Video and Netflix.”
-Nintendo of America President and COO Reggie Fils-Aime.
