It’s that time again! It’s time to predict what Apple will do in 2012. So here’s my predictions their new products, and what is going to be released at their events. This year will be very interesting, and I really want to see how Apple will progress after the tragic death of Steve Jobs. After all, when Steve Jobs first left Apple, the company was close to bankruptcy. So these next four quarters should be very interesting.
First off, let’s talk iPad 3. This will most likely be released in March of 2012. I really don’t think there will be a huge upgrade in its look. However, I believe that it will have a higher screen resolution. It currently has resolution of 1024 by 768 pixels, and it should be upgraded to 2048 by 1536 pixels. We should also see an upgrade to the A6 chip, with a quad-core processor. This new tablet must be quad-core if they want to compete with the upcoming Android tablets. The camera should also be upgraded, and I’m pretty sure of this. The current iPad 2 camera is not very good compared to other tablets, and this should be upgraded in order for Apple to keep the title of the “number one” tablet. I’m hoping the iPad 3 will be thinner, but rumours say it is going to be a tiny bit thicker, due to the camera. There should also be support for 4G LTE.
There has also been talk of an iPad mini, and this will most likely not happen at the March event. There might be an iPad mini in the 3rd or 4th quarter of 2012, and I believe this would be good for Apple. Smaller, cheaper, and affordable tablets are selling better than expected, after the surprise of the Amazon Kindle Fire.
WWDC 2012 in June should also be very good. I believe at this event, there will be something big coming up. There has to be a reason why Apple announced OS X Mountain Lion so early, and not at WWDC. So in my opinion, this points to either of these products…the iPhone 5 or the rumoured Apple TV. I’m pretty sure this will be the Apple TV though. At WWDC, we will also see a small preview of OS X Mountain Lion, and an overview of iOS 6. We might see a new version of iTunes, but we will definitely see something big.
The Apple music event will also be interesting. We will see the release of the new iPhone possibly because this is when Apple seems to be releasing the new iPhones. We will see some new iPod touches, iPod nanos, and iPod shuffles. This is also when Apple may release the iPad mini, but I’m not sure about that.
2012 is the last year we may see the Mac Pro, as desktops aren’t selling as well as laptops and ultrabooks. And the $2000 price tag is expensive for many people. We will see some minor upgrades to the iMac family also, but these are hard to predict. The pricing will probably not change.
