2012 is coming, and technology rumours are heating up. Here’s my prediction, whether possible or not, for 2012.
First, let’s talk iPad. iPad 3 is being rumoured to come out in the first quarter of 2012. It should have an updated retina display, and it might be thinner. I also think that it will go to the A6 chip, with quad core processing. The price should also stay the sane, Also, there may be an iPad Mini. It will be smaller, and it will compete against the Kindle Fire and Kobo Vox. And let’s face it, there isn’t going to be Flash support. iPhone 5 will also be released!
Keeping with Apple, there should be a complete product redesign. This may seem far-fetched, but I think there was a reason why there was no redesign on Apple products this year. I think there may be some new hardware. Also, new Macbooks should be released, and they may get rid of their Mac Pros. Desktops aren’t really selling as well as their laptops, and the Mac Pro price is crazy!
Last Apple rumour is Apple’s own branded TV. I don’t think it will be called iTV, as that is a name infringement on the British television station iTV. But this product was hinted in the Steve Jobs biography book.
Next, 3D TVs. 3D TV has to make a big impact this year, as they are a hard sell in stores. Hopefully, we are going to see universal 3D glasses at CES this year. It’s really stupid that all TVs have their own brand of 3D glasses, and this industry has to get universal glasses in order to survive.
Microsoft news is next. Next year, Windows 8 should be released for tablets and desktops. With Windows 8, we should see the “ribbon interface” set to everything. As well, we might see Microsoft Office 2012. This could be a major update, since Office 2007 was a huge upgrade from Office 2003.
New gaming systems should come out next year also. Wii U is something I’m very interested in. The concept is very interesting, with a touchscreen remote. Dual-screen gaming should be interesting, but it may be complicated. Also, Playstation Vita will be interesting. It’s already released in Japan, but we’re going to see how well it will sell in North America pretty soon.
2012 will be an interesting technology year. CES 2012 is coming up, and we’ll see if some of these rumours are true. For a recap on 2011, click here.
