Today, Facebook released some new changes to their home page sidebar and added a sidebar to apps. This app sidebar is called “app ticker.” These new sidebars add simplicity and easier access.
Let’s start with the App Ticker. As you realize at the top, it will showcase the top 4 apps as shown in your list under “Apps” on your home page. As you can see this example shows EA Sports PGA Tour, I Am Playr, Cityville, etc. These are the top 4 apps this example plays. You can click on that icon to instantly go to the app. Underneath that it will show a “news feed style” that shows recent app news. An example (the name of the person is demonstrated in this example as This Person) would be “This Person played Tetris Battle. 2 hours ago.” I have covered these notifications up to protect the privacy of the people on the list.
The other change was the sidebar on the home page. Changes to the sidebar was to add more categories. The old categories are Favourites, Apps. Now they’ve added Pages and Groups. This makes
easier access if you manage a page (like me) and if you’re part of a group. It’s less painstaking than searching it up in the search bar. Like before, I’ve deleted the group text to protect the “private setting” groups.
This is the second change Facebook has made in the past few months. The other one was the unpopular chat bar.
As a result of this change, you’ll start noticing apps will start changing their own message and inbox styles. Zynga is an example of this change.
