Is this the iPhone 5?

What’s big in the world of tech today…the talk about the new iPhone 5. Macrumours posted some images this morning, and this could well be the new member of the iOS family coming this fall. Here are some features that the iPhone 5 could indeed have if these images are correct.

Could this be the iPhone 5?

The first change is to the home button. It takes a new shape now, oval, not circle. Now this bigger button could mean swiping between apps, as this is already in OS X Lion. I believe this could be a possibility for better multitasking. Also, the home button might be touch-sensitive. Another change that is clear is a bigger screen. This would be good for more room to “swipe” and for the new notification center coming up in iOS 5. This totally makes sense to me. According to, the new dimensions could be 4.33″ x 2.36″ x .27″. It is .10″ thinner than the existing iPhone 4.

The Front and Back of the iPhone 5

Some other changes are the back being made of aluminium. There is also possibilities of a tapered back. Looking at the new iPhone pictures, the Facetime camera looks the same at the top, and camera has the same design in the back. iPhone will obviously include the new software iOS 5 with features such as iCloud. Now if these pictures are true, we can see a similar design coming to the new iPod touch set to release next month. This design could also be for the new iPad. I don’t think it will be incorporated into the new iPad coming out this year (if rumours are true) because it would be pointless to change the design for business users with updated cameras. But this design could definitely come out with the new iPad next year.

  1. interesting! this is also starting to sound like android with aluminum bodies (HTC legend for example)i own an android device with a 3.2″ screen and thats plenty enough to for the swipe notifications that IOS is ‘using’ from android. Bigger screens may alos be going after many samsung, droid, HTC and android in general. there’s also rumors i heard of using the same chip as found in the ipad 2. Im not surprised with the new home button as it is criticizes for having not enough funtion.
